When you travel out of town, the security of your home is of paramount importance as burglars could capitalize on your absence and break into your house and cart away your belongings in the process. There are steps that you can take to protect your home from burglars. Some of them are written below:

Lock the doors and windows firmly
Always lock your doors and windows firmly and make sure you install high quality locks on your doors and gate. If possible, you even use chains (yes you can!).

Inform a trusted neighbour
Tell a trusted neighbour that you will be traveling out of town so he/she can help you keep an eye on your property and always call to remind him/her.

Don’t reveal your travel plans on social media
Revealing too much information on social media can be very dangerous as some unscrupulous elements are always lurking around looking for innocent people to prey on. Never post your travel plans on social media; criminals can use this information to burgle your home when you are away.

Inform appropriate security agencies
Always inform security agents that you want to travel so that they can do extra patrols around your property. This is necessary so that they can question anybody lurking your property; this will highly discourage burglars.

Turn on the exterior perimeter lights
Burglars don’t like well-lit areas, so turning on the exterior perimeter lights discourages intending burglars from lurking around your property. Always make sure you have very bright lights installed on your perimeter.
